I am also looking for ways to make my desk setup in the office as ergonomic but also as minimal as possible. I don’t want to be carrying a massive keyboard around in my laptop bag when going into the office. So this is where the ProtoArc Foldable Keyboard comes into the picture. There are a few key areas that I want to look at in this post:
1. Design
2. Connectivity
3. Usability
4. Battery Life
So let’s jump into each of these in more detail.
Keyboard Design:
What makes this keyboard great for when you are travelling or heading into the office is the fact that it is foldable. The keyboard has a tri-fold design with the two-end sections folding in so the keys are protected as well as it been half the size that it is when unfolded.
The Keyboard has been designed with durability in mind and with that ProtoArc says that the keyboard is capable of 100.000 fold which equates to 13 years of use.
The ProtoArc Foldable Keyboard is a full-sized keyboard (105 keys) which is nice as you get the number pad, in the past, I would have gone for a 60% keyboard.
It has low profile scissor switches which provide a nice and quiet typing experience, which is great for when in the office as it’s not going to disturb those around you. You can also get the ProtoArc Foldable Keyboard in three colours, Black, Space Gray and White Silver.
Connectivity:
This keyboard connects via Bluetooth and can connect up to 3 devices like most other wireless keyboards. I found that the pair experience was really easy and is just a case of going into your Bluetooth settings and adding a new device. It connected immediately with no issues and connected perfectly each time I was in the office.
It is also compatible with macOS, Windows and Android. So this is a great option for those of us who work across operating systems. It’s also great for times when you don’t want to take your laptop and work on your tablet but still want to have a keyboard.
Usability:
So far I have enjoyed using this keyboard. The keyboard itself is flat with no adjustable feet to allow you to change your typing angle, this would be nice to have but I haven’t found that it has taken away from the typing experience. As mentioned this comes with low-profile quiet switches so it is nice to type and I have found the keys to be very responsive.
Another thing to mention is that the keyboard itself is light which is another advantage for making this a great choice for you to have this in your laptop back. In the box, you also get a neat carry case for your keyboard to keep it nice and protected in your bag.
Battery Life:
Battery life is an important element to consider when you are looking for a keyboard that you can take on your travels. The ProtoArc Foldable Keyboard comes with a rechargeable battery with a 210 mAh capacity with a maximum standby time of 6 months. To charge your keyboard back up there is a USB-C cable that comes in the box.
The fact that there is no backlighting allows for a maximum 6 months standby time. With a lot of other keyboards, there is backlights and if you venture into the Mechanical Keyboard space you enter into the world of RGB lighting which can eat the battery life.
Final Thoughts:
This is a great keyboard for those who travel a lot or head into the office a couple of days a week. That is not to say that you couldn’t use this for your day-to-day keyboard it’s perfectly suited for that as well. Its priced well at £48 so it’s not going to break the bank.
I have been looking for a keyboard for when I am in the office that doesn’t take up all my bag space. And this does fit the bill without compromising on build quality or typing experience.
