Are you finding it hard to concentrate? Always getting distracted by your devices? I can certainly relate. This is why I decided to try using Apple Focus Modes, to see if they could really do what they said on the tin and help me well Focus.
In this blog post, we will look at the different ways/situations that you can use focus modes, as well as how you can customise your screens to work with your different focus modes.
So let’s dive in 👇
Why Use Focus Modes?
Firstly, let’s look at why we should think about using focus modes and what they can bring to the table. Well, in short, they provide you with Less Distractions so your mind can fully focus on the task at hand or get you into that deep workspace.
Benefits of Focus Modes:
The main benefit of focus modes is being able to set up a mode for different situations, such as:
- Work Focus
- Personal Focus
- Workout Focus
- Driving Focus
- Family Focus
And these are just some of the common focus modes that you can set, and you can customise each of them (more below👇).
These modes allow you to be more focused and even more present when you are setting time for you and your family. You can literally create a new mode for anything you want, and it will sync to all your Apple Devices.
Customising Focus Modes:
One of the main benefits of the Apple Focus Modes is that you can customise them. There are a few ways in which you can do this.
- Customise your Screens.
- Choose your apps.
- Choose who can contact you.
Let’s touch on each of these in a bit more detail 👇
Customise Your Screens:
This allows you to change your screen setup. This can be just by having a different wallpaper or having it in greyscale to reduce the appeal when you open it.
Choose Your Apps:
Removing distractions is one of the key points of Focus Modes and one of the main ways it achieves this removing Apps. When you set up your focus modes, you have the option to choose which apps you have and which apps can notify you.
Choose Your Contacts:
This is like choosing which apps can notify, but it is tailored to which people in your contacts list can call or message you. I personally have this set so that only close family can get in touch when I am in my Focus Modes.
How To Set Up Focus Modes:
Focus Modes are super easy to set up and only take a couple of minutes following the steps below.
- Settings → Focus
- Hit + → Select from the list or choose custom
- Name your Focus Mode → Colour → Icon
- Customise Focus → Select People and Apps → Customise Screens
And that’s all there is to it, just repeat the above if you want to add multiple focus modes.
Final Thoughts 💭
I had not used focus modes in the past, but I have found that using them to be helpful. I mainly use my work focus mode, which blocks out the distractions of notifications while I am at work. I found that I am picking up my phone less during the day, which has helped with my productivity.
There are many benefits to having focus mode, and they are so easy to set up and start using. And the great thing is that it might not be productivity that you are looking to improve; it could just be reducing your screen time so that you can be more present with friends and family.
So if you haven’t given Focus Modes a try yet, then why not set one up and give it a try. This post focuses on Apple Focus Mode but android devices also have the same functionality so why not get Focusing.
