Keychron K3 Max Mechanical Keyboard Review

Keychrone K3 Max
Recently, I got the Keychron K3 Max Mechanical Keyboard to add to be my office setup. This is a low profile 75% keyboard which will fit into any workspace setup that you might have.

There are five main areas that I want to cover off in this post to help if you are looking for your first mechanical keyboard or just wanting to add to your collection.

  1. Keyboard Design
  2. Brown Gateron Switches
  3. Typing Experience
  4. Connectivity & Compatibility
  5. Battery Life

So let’s jump into each of these in more detail 👇

Keyboard Design:

The Keychron K3 Max is a sleek and stylish low profile keyboard that will look great on anyone’s desk. The Keyboard itself is a 75% keyboard, so does not have the number pad like a 100% keyboard would. You do still get a function key row with some useful functions like volume and brightness control.

Unlike other mechanical keyboards that I have tried, the Keychron K3 Max has a very streamlined design in that the keys go all the way to the edge. No boarder. This provides a very compact look to the keyboard.

The keyboard has grey keys that are in to different tones, which gives a nice aesthetic. The ESC keycap is orange, which pops off against the grey and provides a nice splash of colour. There is also ergonomic support with 3 different adjustable angles to support your wrist for those long typing sessions.

There is of course a number of light effects (22 to be precise) that you can choose from on the K3 Max. It is easy to switch between the light effects by pressing the light bulb key in the top right-hand corner.

Brown Gateron Switches:

The Keychron K3 Max that I purchased came with brown Tactile Gateron Switches. The Brown Switch has a tactile structure with a smooth feel, but you will still get that bump sort of feeling that you won’t get on a normal keyboard.

The Brown Gateron switch are a mixture of Red (Quite Sound) and Blue (Clicky Sound) Gateron Switches. This lead to a what they refer to as a medium sounds, but it still provides you with a clicky sound, but It’s less aggressive.

This makes it a perfect keyboard across the board whether it be gaming, typing or just daily work.

Typing Experience:

I don’t know about you, but the reason I love a mechanical keyboard is the typing experience and the sound. The sound is what I love the most. The keys are well spaced, and I don’t find any issues with miss types (well, no more than normal 🤣).

The K3 Max has decent key travel, which makes the keyboard comfortable to use when you are typing for long periods of time. So this is a great keyboard for typing.

Connectivity & Compatibility:

The Keychron K3 Max can be paired with up to 3 devices, so you can easily switch between multiple Keyboards or to other device like your tablet. Like other keyboard to switch, you can press between the 1–3 keys in the number bar.

In terms of how you connect your keyboard to your devices, you have two options:

  1. USB Type A 2.4Hz Receiver
  2. Bluetooth 5.1

The USB receiver is plug and play so you don’t need to mess about, it will just work when you plug it in. I have this in my work laptop and use Bluetooth for my other devices. It’s easy enough to connect via Bluetooth, just head to hold down which button you want to associate to that device. Then head over to your Bluetooth setting and select the K3 Max, and you are good to go.

The K3 Max work with both macOS and WinOS which is great for those who rock both devices. You can switch between both OS easily by toggling the switch at the top of the keyboard, and you will be able to use the shortcuts etc across both.

Battery Life:

The K3 Max is rocking a 1550mAh battery which will give you between 1-2 weeks charge when the backlight is disabled.

The keyboard comes with a USB Type A to Type C charging cable which is connected at the top of the keyboard. Having the connector at the top of the Keyboard means that you can easily charge your keyboard whilst you are using it.

Final Thoughts 💭:

If you are on the lookout for a good quality low profile mechanical keyboard at a decent price (£89). It ticks a number of boxes.

  1. Well Priced
  2. Compact and Stylish
  3. Comfortable typing experience
  4. Gives that’s clicky Mechanical Keyboard sound

So if you are looking to enter the addictive world of mechanical keyboard or scratching the itch to add to your collection then give this keyboard a look.
