And so my mechanical keyboard journey continues this time with LoFree Flow Mechanical Keyboard. I have seen a lot of comments about this keyboard and how nice it is to use so I thought to myself let’s try it out. I have had it for about a month now and have been using it with my laptop (M1 MacBook Air) and my work PC (Lenovo).
So in this post, there are a few things that I want to cover off when it comes to the LoFree Flow Mechanical Keyboard:
1. The Design
2. Connectivity
3. Switches
4. Typing Experience
5. Battery Life
6. Price
So let’s dive into these points in more detail.
Keyboard Design:
Like most of the mechanical keyboards I have gone with in the past this is a compact 60% low-profile keyboard. It has an all-aluminium base and frame giving it a premium look and feel. The design is very minimalist which I like. At the top of the keyboard, you have an on/off/Bluetooth switch and a USB-C port for charging and the cable and that is that.
The LoFree Flow comes with white backlighting which has four levels of intensity that you can adjust to using the function keys. On the side of the keyboard, you have RGB sidelights which you have 8 different colours to choose from, again this is done using the FN key and the arrow keys. These different lighting options allow you to choose the right light to fit your mood and desk setup.
Connectivity:
The LoFree Flow Keyboard can connect to your devices via Bluetooth or wired using the cable provided. I only tend to use Bluetooth as I switch between my work laptop and personal MacBook Air. This is where being able to connect to up to 3 devices is great when you use multiple ones.
Setting up your devices via Bluetooth is slightly different to other keyboards I have used like the Logitech Mechanical Mini. It’s not clearly indicated on the keyboard how to enter into pairing mode but once you know how it’s simple. Hold down the FN key and 1 and it will enter pairing mode, you will know it is in pairing mode as the indicator light on the caps lock key will start flashing. To add more devices do the same but by pressing the 2 or 3 keys.
Switches:
The Keyboard that I ordered comes with Ghost switches but you can also get Phantom and Wizard switches. The ghost switches are linear switches giving a smooth typing experience. The keyboard is hot-swappable so if you do want to change your switches then you can do so easily.
Typing Experience:
This is the main thing that I look for in a keyboard. I spend all day at my laptop for work and then on my personal trying to grow my side hustle, so a great typing experience is key. The LoFree Flow certainly deliver on this front. I decided on the linear switches as they provide a smooth typing experience which is great for long typing sessions and is perfect for when you are working on a computer or laptop all day.
Battery Life:
So far I am finding that I am having to charge this once a week which is not too bad but not as good as others. It is easy to see when the keyboard needs to be charged as the LED light at the front of the keyboard will start to flash red. The USB-C charging port is at the top of the keyboard so it makes it easy to continue to use it whilst charging, there are no awkward leads in the way while you are working away.
Price:
I found that good quality low-profile mechanical keyboards are not cheap. The LoFree Flow is no different and is around the same price as others that I have purchased at $159 (£125). Now it’s not cheap but you get what you pay for £125 I think you are getting a good quality keyboard that’s going to last you.
Final Thoughts:
I am pleased that I decided to pull the trigger and buy this keyboard. I have found that out of all of the mechanical keyboards that I have tried this is the most one I enjoy using the most. It’s perfect for work as it’s very comfortable to use and my wrists do not feel fatigued at the end of the day.
It’s also the first of my mechanical keyboards that I have taken into the office with me. I am usually conscious that mechanical keyboards are noisy and can distract your colleagues but not with this keyboard. There are also accessories like the keyboard sleeve that protect’s your keyboard when travelling. This is certainly a great mechanical keyboard for anyone whether you are just getting into them or whether you are just looking to expand your collection.
